One area where we think it's high time we get the language right is around what's happening to the demographics of America. We are growing older, which is better, and more accurate, than saying we're aging.

There’s a mindset among today’s Boomer generation, those aged 55-73 this year, that “old” is something still far off into the future. Most Boomers tell us they think they’ll live to 95 or 100 years old, and won’t officially enter old age until they are north of 80.

Gen Xers in their 40s to early 50s are beginning to realize that the Boomers ahead of them are not leaving their jobs. Positions are not opening up.

Forget the glass ceiling, these Gen Xers are facing an “ass ceiling” of Boomer butts still in those seats. For larger organizations...
